Transferring files from a 3.5" HD

Ok I reckon my PC is dead but I would like to transfer the files on my PC's HD to my laptop (i dont have access to another PC at the moment) Is there a way to do this and how do I go about it? Do I need any special cables? Thanks, Gill.
 
There are 3.5" enclosures that connect to USB. You can find nice ones for $35. Also, there are USB to IDE cables where(basically just like these enclosures without the enclosure :P) Not quite as safe, but if you just wish to get the info, that would be the cheapest method.
