Transferring files from PC to Laptop

I just bought a new lap top the other day. I was wondering how I would go about transferring files from my PC to my Laptop. Is there a way I can hardwire the two? Or is there a way I can actually control my PC from my Laptop, etc. Thanks a lot.

Crossover cable..

Yes, a crossover cable would be good enough for transfering between the two. As for controlling the desktop with your PC, you can use something like LapLink, PCanywhere, or GoToMyPC via network or internet connection.

If you have a router, just plug both into it and then share a folder on one of your computers and you'll be able to copy/move files over very easily. One note: both computers must be setup on the same network workgroup, default is: MSHOME

if u are unsure about a crossover cable, it looks like your average blue network cable that connects you to a router, except it is green. just plug it into both lan slots on the computer
