Transferring from Laptop to Desktop

Transferring from Laptop to Desktop :

1 - I have a Dell Latitude D820 laptop that runs on the XP Professional. This is my current everyday computer.

2 - I just ordered a Dell Vostro 620 Tower desktop that will run on Vista Business.

3 - The Vostro 620 will be the main home-based computer and the Latitude D820 will be the mobile computer.

Question - How can I best transfer my computer system (programs, files, etc) from the laptop to the desktop … what with a change in operating systems? Are there recommended procedures … even 3rd party software … for doing this?

i dont believe there are. but there are external hard drives you can use. you can buy one from costco and when your done transferring just return it....
its dirty but its a thought
 
If you have Norton Ghost you can make a image of your partition and then copy that image you made to a external hard drive and then with Norton Ghost you can put that image on any hard drive. Copys the whole partition. Could take awhile if you have alot of stuff.
