Tricking a power supply?

Is there away to trick a power supply to check it's output with the power supply out of the computer?

I just restored a friends PC by installing a slightly higher wattage PSU. The old power unit must have dropped it's output some, because it was not strong enough to drive the board and it's options.

I have another PC that is so called dead without any signs of death also.

I pulled the PSU and I'm wondering how can I trick the unit to show the output.

It came from a HP Pavilion 700 and I don't have another PSU now to try.

Is there a way to turn on the psu with out the motherboard?

But with volt meter work really good than PSU tester. It is expensive.

To OP, never test with your volt meter for amp, it can damage.

Engrish?

A multimeter used to test voltage is useless if there is no load. As Strangle said. No point AT ALL testing a PSU at no-load as this tells you nothing.

I tested them all

My PS tester came in and I tested every Power Supply I pulled from dead PCs. and every PS was bad in one way or another. I like the PG test of a PS with the tester since it tell if the voltages are constant and not wavering.

Now I can test the power supply when I get in a bad PC.

I'm impressed it. I didn't want to open a PS without knowing it's true condition. I kept their circuit boards and fans, just in case I needed a part, and tossed the rest.

I've ordered more PS to get back to work.

Thanks for the help and tips.
