Trojan horse...

Hi. I was using AVG anti-virus a little while ago and it came across a couple trojan-horse viruses in my computer. Does AVG take them out? Or is there something that I have to do to get them to go away?
And also: What is the difference between a trojan horse and a virus really?

By the way, it says that the name of it is Downloader.Generic6.LLU

well avg will have most likely taken the infection out. Try running a full scan now and see what it picks up.

from wiki said:
In the context of computer software, a Trojan horse is a program that installs malicious software while under the guise of doing something else. Though not limited in their payload, Trojan horses are more notorious for installing backdoor programs which allow unauthorized non permissible remote access to the victim's machine by unwanted parties - normally with malicious intentions. Unlike a computer virus, a Trojan horse does not propagate by inserting its code into other computer files. The term is derived from the classical myth of the Trojan Horse. Like the mythical Trojan Horse, the malicious code is hidden in a computer program or other computer file which may appear to be useful, interesting, or at the very least harmless to an unsuspecting user. When this computer program or file is executed by the unsuspecting user, the malicious code is also executed resulting in the set up or installation of the malicious Trojan horse program

Well if the AVG is not getting the trojans, then try to run the trojan remover. It will detect and remove if any. About the difference , you can look for the information on the net as even i am confused about them.

Yes, if AVG found a trojan horse it should quarantine it. A trojan horse is basically a malicious piece of software which pretends to be someone which its not...ie it could take the place of firefox and when you click the firefox icon, it would start the trojan instead of firefox. Its called downloader.generic coz like a lot of trojans it uses the internet to download copies of itself to your comp.

Wow ... Hahahahha thats Funny ---->>"A trojan horse is basically a malicious piece of software which pretends to be someone which its no" thats actually Malware and a Downloader.... A trojan is a Remote Administration Tool that can control a users computer through a open port on the computer.. it can Erased/Make files or even move them its just a privacy consuming Tool. Lots of them made in Visual Basic.

A virus/worm is a distructive worm that deletes and encrypts data it makes copies of itself and attaches itself to programs so it could be spread more widely

The first virus/worm ever made was the Moris Worm which took down the internet in 19?? i forgot..

I know this because i make viruses to use on my machine to test my security strenght.. I DO NOT SPREAD VIRUSES!..

Here is an explanation of a virus, trojan horse and worms.

A computer virus attaches itself to a program or file so it can spread from one computer to another, leaving infections as it travels. Much like human viruses, computer viruses can range in severity; some viruses cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software, or files. Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program.

A worm is similar to a virus by its design, and is considered to be a sub-class of a virus. Worms spread from computer to computer, but unlike a virus, it has the ability to travel without any help from a person. A worm takes advantage of file or information transport features on your system, which allows it to travel unaided. The biggest danger with a worm is its ability to replicate itself on your system, so rather than your computer sending out a single worm, it could send out hundreds or thousands of copies of itself, creating a huge devastating effect.

A Trojan Horse is full of as much trickery as the mythological Trojan Horse it was named after. The Trojan Horse, at first glance will appear to be useful software but will actually do damage once installed or run on your computer. Those on the receiving end of a Trojan Horse are usually tricked into opening them because they appear to be receiving legitimate software or files from a legitimate source. When a Trojan is activated on your computer, the results can vary. Some Trojans are designed to be more annoying than malicious (like changing your desktop, adding silly active desktop icons) or they can cause serious damage by deleting files and destroying information on your system. Trojans are also known to create a backdoor on your computer that gives malicious users access to your system, possibly allowing confidential or personal information to be compromised. Unlike viruses and worms, Trojans do not reproduce by infecting other files nor do they self-replicate.

XD I think i read that same Definition at wikipedia.org <My Explanation was Slang Not Nerdy> may be understood by n00bs. no offense.
