Trojan Virus

Hi

A trojan virus appeared on my other computer. I replaced my AVG anti virus with Avira AntiVirus. I also installed SuperAntiSpiWare. It has definitely helped.

I want to see if I have gotten on top of this virus and I went to install HiJackThis (so I can ask you guys who know what you're doing to have a look at my report) When I download it, and click on the shortcut on my desktop I get this error message:

Windows cannot find C:\Documents and Settings\Darragh\Desktop\hijackthis-2\Hijack This.exe

Any ideas? Thank you.

If Hijackthis isn't listed in the program menu then navigate to here...

C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe

and run it from there.

I'm still having the same problem. I went through the program menu and the same error message appears. I did a search on all the files with Hijack in them, clicked on them and the same error message: Windows cannot find.....

I re-installed the program (deleted all the files) and downloaded the program again (through file hippo.com). I clicked on "download file". Then a box appears saing: you have chosen to open HJTInstall.exe which is a binary file. Would you like to save this file?
I hit "save file". Then a box appears "downloads". HJTInstall is a the top of the list. I click on this. A box appears: Do you want to run this file? I click run. Then it asks me to "choose the path you want Hijack this installed to". C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis is in the box and I hit "install". The box disappears and nothing happens (I see nothing being installed). I go to my desktop and I see the Hijack This shortcut. I click on it and the message appears:

"Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijack This\.exe. Make sure you typed..etc, etc"

Same thing when I go through program files.

Could the Trojan horse have done something to make it like this? Thanks

Rename the file to something different. Sometimes the malware will stop hijack this from running. So just change the name to something insignificant such as your name so the malware won't stop it from running. If that don't help, you might have to sleave that drive to another system and do scans that way.
