Trouble connecting second computer to Internet?

I recently purcahsed a used computer for gaming, and I cannot connect it to the internet. Now the way my house is setup, we have the modem and router in an attic, not anywhere near the main computer, so all you have to do is plug an ethernet cable into the wall. But when I try this with my second computer, it doesnt work. I also dont know if theres a wireless adapter already built in, there is something called Hamachi that shows up in like the devices. Also, I noticed on the router there is only one port plugged in, would I have to connect a second port? Thanks, can give more info if needed.

Is there a second ethernet cable connected to the modem in the attic? This should be the one corresponding to the ethernet socket in your room to which you are connecting you NIC.
