Trouble downloading

I am having trouble downloading a 186 MB file. I get about 22 MB and then the file stops downloading. The window shows that it is still downloading at a speed of 30KB/sec but it stays at 22 MB for about an hour and then times out. Anyone got any suggestions at to why this happens and how to fix it?

Are you using IE to download it or something like GetRight or a Bit Torrent client??

Is there a mirror site you can try downloading it from?

have you checked the error log on your router? does it mention anything like a router restart?

Try downloading GetRight which is a download manager/accelerator that lets you pause & resume downloads(site/server dependent) and from more than one at a time.

Download Link: http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/143266-4XH3/getright-download.exe
Install and select the option to integrate into IE(or something similar, like right-click menu), then open this page and right-click on the "I Agree" button and chose "Download with GetRight.

"have you checked the error log on your router? does it mention anything like a router restart?" I'll be honest. I am not totally sure what a router is or where the error log is located. Im quite a newbie when it comes to computer things. But i get along in most areas. I will try GetRight. Thanks for the help. I would like to know what a router is for sure, and how to fing the error log.

okay, i looked up router and feel very very very dumb for not knowing. But I'd rather be honest then no know what's going on. Anyway, I still don't know where the error log on my router is. So if you get a chance to let me know, I would be much appreciative.

Do you know the Brand & Model number of your router?

I cant find the User manual for that modem, but try opening IE then entering "192.168.0.1" in the address bar, and see it it takes you to the Setup page of your modem. You will then need to login(the password should be in your user manual) and browse the links/headings for something like "Status Log" or "Error Log" etc.

it didn't show up at all. It looked and then brought up yahoo search for "192168.01. And I don't have a user manual for my modem. I use the modem the cable company gave me. I have to get some other things done before I go to bed. So I gotta get going, but let me know what I should do about finding the error log. Thanks a bunch for all the help, it seems GetRight is getting the job done. :)

If GetRight is working then don't worry about the error log then... it will only tell you if the internet dropped out or if the modem reset(can sometimes happen during heavy use or in high heat...if this was the case, would look at getting in replaced under warranty)
Could have just been a problem with IE seeing the page as being inactive and timing out.
