Trouble Powering up my Dell Dimension desktop...

Lately, I've had trouble been powering up my Desktop Computer (Dell Dimension - around 4 years old). When I hit the power button, what is supposed to happen is the green light on the actual button lights up, and the small light below it as well, and then the screen turns on and everything boots up. Within the last month or so, when I'd hit the power button, the bottom light only lights up, and you can hear everything booting up (sounds normal), however the screen does not turn on. The little light on the monitor flickers as if the computer wasn't on at all. I even waited it out, and nothing. When this would happen I'd just hold the power button off and try again, and it would work normally. However, this morning, when it happened and I tried again, it did not work. I tried around 4 or 5 times, and it still would not work. Anyone know what the problem with this is? Before when I'd "try again" I would try holding the power button in when powering ON a little longer, and the green light on the actual button would light up (didn't before when it didn't work) and everything would be fine. However this morning this wasn't the case - both lights were on and it still did the same thing - sounds like everything is booting normal but am getting no screen input. Why would this do that off and on like that? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well it might sound like a power supply problem, but then again have you checked to see if all of the cords are plugged in correctly?

Yeah everything is plugged in correctly. Now that I think of it, I bought a USB 2.0 port for my system a month or so ago, I put it in one of the slots in the computer and it never recognized it for whatever reason, and I completely forgot about it and it's still in there. i THINK this problem started right around the time that I put that in there (even though its not working at all for some reason....) do you think that could be part of the problem?

i took it out, and now it worked fine...hmmmmm

any idea how i can get the USB 2.0 jacks to work tho? i'm not sure why my computer didn't read them

Try a different slot, if it still isn't working, exchange it for a new one as that one may be defective.
