My drive wont read some discs:

far cry 2
supreme commander
any demo disc from pc power play magazine.

I suspect it has something to do with dual layer dvd's, which supreme commander and far cry 2 are on, hell, all new games are! my dvd burner wont read them. it tries and tries but in the end it stops trying and doesnt spin the disc up. Its an IDE version and has the latest firmware (1.06) and still no luck.
can anyone help me?

burner is a "GSA-H55N" according to device manager.

It's new(ish) and has never even read any dl-dvd. It's a DVD-RAM drive if that helps... im at a loss... my brothers crappy generic dvd player can read them but this ting cost me $60 and it wont...

Costing more money doesn't mean its gonna be better. It's labeled as a dvd ram drive as it can read dvd ram disks. All I ever get is Liteon brand and have never had a problem.

Yeah, true. this model has "SecurDisc" and "Super Multi" which i suspect has something to do with reading all formats of dvd's. Nero InfoCheck says that my drive supports +/- DVD-DL drives for reading and writing. But it wont read any of them... i really wanna play far cry 2:(

I've flashed the firmware to the latest 1.06 version, with no luck.
is the driver different to the firmware?

Well, my brother made a copy of far cry 2 for me, and the copy works in my drive. but the original won't. It spins up, does something for a bit, then stops trying to read the disc. The original far cry game i have did this too, but after a couple of tries it worked... maybe i'll just keep trying.
