Trouble with Reinstall

OS is Windows XP Home. Computer Dell Dimension 2100
I have just reinstalled XP using the disc that came with the machine.
Now I have no Audio, the display is stuck at 800 x 600 pixels 8 bit color and I cannot see the internet (DSL). Dial up internet is OK. I can use DSL using the same modem on an older machine.

When I look at the Device Manager, everything is OK with the exception of yellow question marks on the following:

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Video Controller (VGA compatible)

Any assistance would be greatly appreviated. Bill

You should have a driver cd that came along with the computer that willl install them .for yu. If not just go to Dell's website and download them.

Wow! I'm new here too but maybe I can help! That is unless you knew some of this already. Search online for drivers for those items listed for you model of computer. The 3 things you mentioned happen to match the three problems you described having with your computer. Search "Dell 2100" "Ethernet Controller" XP Driver, online, or some variation similar. Do the same seearch for all the other drivers you mentioned. You can probably find the drivers at Dell's website as well. Maybe someone else here can send you links to the drivers but I typically just get online and search. Once you download the driver to your computer install it from the same place you have those yellow question marks. I hope I understood your question correctly and didnt just tell you a bunch of stuff you already knew! :o Good luck! :D

When you go the Dell website it may ask you for the serial number of the machine, This is normally on the base or the back of the machine.

Put this in and you will get the correct software for your machine including any updaed files you need.

Terry

Thanks to all for your responses. I've gotten the correct drivers for the Internet and monitor problems from the Dell website. Still wrestling with finding the correct driver for the sound. Bill

Right click on the audio controller, click on properties, then click on the details tab. Give me the 4 digit vendor and device id numbers. They look like this.

When I setup the driver, the computer shut down part way through with a message that it was doing this to prevent damage. Bill

What you have is the intel ac97 sound hardware. Not sure why the driver isn't working.

You can try updating the driver manually, make sure you let it search windows update for available drivers.
