Hey all,

ANY FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED :)
When I 'power on' my PC, before giving me the option of pressing DEL to enter Bios etc, it diverts to the screen that says you can either:

1. Start windows in safe mode.
2. Open with MS-DOS
3. Start windows running the last known good configuration.
4. Start windows normally.
Etc.

Scary thing is, no matter what option I chose, it tries to run Windows / MS-DOS before randomly restarting. Every time it tries to boot it shuts down, restarts and goes back to that same screen I mentioned above.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix the problem??

Thanks heaps. :D

lol nothing comes on my screen i press the on button lights n stuff come on but nothing on screen i know all bout HHD and re-formatting and stuff but thios big prob :(

Reset the BIOS incase its that, unlikely. - Do that by removing CMOS battery, leave out for 10mins, and reinsert.
Take the memory out and reseat it in different channels.

Reply back if still no progress.

Thanks for all your feedback so far.

This HDD has only ever been used on this PC and it's been running well for a few months now. Regardless, even if I try and boot in safe mode, it only gets half way through the screen where its loading windows before shuting down and restarting.

Ill reset the CMOS and shuffle around the RAM in the slots this afternoon and let you know how it goes.

If by doing the above procedure it finally lets me into the BIOS, should I look for anything there?

Thanks again.

With regards to getting into the BIOS, it sounds like the screen asking you to hit del to enter setup is coming and going while the monitor is still warming up. Try hitting the delete key (repeatedly) from the moment you push the power button.

With regards to your problem loading Windows, I'd be inclined to boot off the Windows CD (you may need to get in to the BIOS first to change the boot order to the CD-ROM), and try a repair reinstall of Windows.

That's a good suggestion thanks!

Okay, so I'll try and get into the BIOS and then make the CD-ROM the number 1 boot order priority. How do I then make the PC boot off the WindowsXP CD? Does it auto detect the CD and do it itself? Because I cant even go to MS-DOS (if that's required) without the PC shutting down.

Any other suggestions? I'll try all these ASAP and report back to you experts.

Thanks again, u guys are pro's!

I'm back! Over the weekend I found access to the BIOS, it was just quick booting before the monitor could warm up. So I got in there, shuffled around the boot device priority to make CD-ROM number 1. Then booted with the Windows CD in the drive. When I tried to make an installation repair, it just went to MS-DOS and said type "EXIT" to exit and didnt look like it was making any progress. When I tried to re-install windows, rather than just installing, it demanded that I must partition the drive - hence, losing all data :(

When I removed the HDD and put it in another PC as a slave (to burn important data to a DVD then partition the drive), it recognised the disk, displayed it in My Computer and said it was working properly. Though I couldn't open it due to a dialogue box saying "the drive is inaccessible". I will be trying it again shortly on another PC just in case it was the PC, but the problem sounds like a faulty HDD or a virus.

Do you all agree? Or does the symptoms point to another cause? THANKS!!
