Truth About Temperatures!

Here is a list of most Intel CPU's showing the Tj. Max for each;

Not the best quality, there's a PDF; HERE

If you open Core Temp or any other temperature reading program, the results you're getting are more than likely wrong.

With CoreTemp and RealTemp at their default settings, here are my temps;

However, the Tj .Max for my CPU is set to 100c (default value). When in fact, the Tj .Max for the Q6600 G0 is 90c.

So, let's change the Tj .Max for both CoreTemp and RealTemp and get our correct temps;

Now you have the correct temperature readings for your specific CPU;

This will now allow us to OC our CPU's to their full potential since we'll now know their correct full load temps;

Hope this helps some people!

I always thought the programs set it a bit high...i didn't think i'd get 40C with a stock cooler at stock settings. And where it says stepping it means the revision right?

Heh, I definitely need to adjust mine.
I had coretemp telling me I had a 9C CPU.
Though I was at an outside LAN in the winter lol.
Set up on my friend's driveway with a few extension cords...
Don't ask me why.

some how i fail to see this as acurate!

my q6600 was idle at 19oc with my liquid cooling with the tj max at 100, so judging by your outcome when you adjusted the tj max you knocked 10c off your temps!

so mine would have been running at 9c?

i dont belive these programs to be acurate anyway!!

hmm im not sure how correct this is,If it is correct then my temps are 26-27c on 4 cores which would be awesome but i want to make sure this is 100% right.

.....maybe someone should pass this info onto the makers of CoreTemp and see what they have to say?

Thanks for posting though danny,I hope its right :)

Why does it say Tj. Max = 100? Didn't you change it to 90 according to the table?

CoreTemp doesn't allow you to change the Tj. Max, but it'll allow you to change the offset, so if you set it to -10, it's effectively like changing the Tj. Max to 90c.

Not saying you are right or wrong, but have you tried doing what Korn said? It sounds like the offset varies from rig to rig.
