Trying to change Laptop motherboard

Hi--

I am trying to change my motherboard for my Gateway mx6440 laptop because my first one went out on me. I'd like to just buy this one off of the internet or a dealer. How do I find out what type of motherboard I need (model number, etc.)? Is the motherboard specific to the mx6440 or will the motherboard in, say, an mx6415 or another model work?

Problem with laptops, especially as they get older, is that the motherboard often costs right around what the entire laptop is worth, because motherboards are unique to the laptop series or model.

you have two ways, a program called CPU-Z might help you out, or you might just have to open it up to look at the partnumber....then again you could alwasy look for the exact model of the computer online and see if any one knows the partnumber
