Trying to get photos off old computers

I'm not sure if I put this is the right place but Here goes....
I have 7 yes 7 computers that all got viruses and have pics of my kids still on them . The problem is I cannot throw them away because I keep thinking I can get the photos off somehow ....although most of them turn on and within minutes go to the blue screen. Any ideas on how I can get my photos off them so I can get rid of them ? One is a gateway desktop the others are laptops .

Do you have a desktop that works?

Plug the hard drive into the desktop and set it as a slave. Then you'll have access to the files. It may be better to just connect the hard drives and then scan for viruses on the working desktop.

Another thing that might work is booting to safe mode on the computer. Start it up and press F8 repeatedly.
 
The acer laptop turns on and then goes to a black screen that says operating system not found . Media test failure check cable

I also have a gateway desktop that I took the hard drive out of and threw away the computer . Web I hook it up to my computer it is not recognized when I go into my computer under hard drives . This is the most important one by far to try to recover .

& lastly the one I'm trying to figure out is a gateway laptop . It works but freezes up in the middle of stuff and you have to restart it

How do I set it as a slave ?(sorry computer illiterate here!)
 
If you wanted to kick out the money, you could (I think) buy a SATA hard drive dock. Then you could just stick your drives in the dock and copy the stuff. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
 
If BSOD occurs because of viruses then do the following:

-Load Linux Ubuntu on that computer using the Linux CD-ROM disk

-When you get to the desktop,go to PLACES -> COMPUTER

-Locate your HDD and then navigate through folders to find the folder in which you have your pictures

-right click that folder and then click CUT

-now click COMPUTER at the top of the window and then locate some external media (such as HDD,usb flash stick and so on),open it and there go right click with the mouse and click PASTE to move the folder with your pictures on that external media

-once you have saved all your important data,turn off the Ubuntu,take the CD-ROM disk out and shut down the computer

-reinstall Windows OS

-move your pictures back to your computer once Windows OS has been installed
