Trying to re-partition hard drive space, not working?

Hello!

My computer came with something close to 400GB on the H: drive and about 300GB on the C: drive. I want to transfer most of the H: drive to the C: drive.

To do so, I am using the computer management tool to transfer about 390 of that unused 400GB. I have already shrunk the H: drive to 10GB and now I have 390GB of unallocated space. Problem is, when I right click my C: drive in computer management it does not allow me to expand it, which would re-partition that unallocated space.

Does anyone have a solution?

Which OS are you running? Only Windows 7 and above will allow you to resize the active partition while inside the OS. If it's before Windows 7 you need to download a utility called GParted (found either by itself or on Hiren's Boot CD). Burn it to a CD or flashdrive and boot to it, then you can resize the partition.

I am currently running windows 8.1. It has the option to expand, it's just not available for whatever reason(meaning it is faded out on the right click menu)

If the free space is on the other end of the drive then it can't be merged with c drive. You will need to use a third party program. Or you will need to move all data off of H and then do it. Mini tool partition wizard is what I use.

I am attempting to do this with Mini Tool Partition Wizard, however it does not seem to be working. Could you tell me how to move that unallocated space to my C: drive?

What you want to do is right click on c drive and click on extend. It will ask you where you want to take space from. When you are done, you need to click on apply up top left so it will start the process. It may take a while if it has to move any data to a different area of the drive.

Have you moved everything off H? If so, just delete the H partition and then expand C.

I have already tried that, H: is no longer a partition, however it still will not let me expand C:.
I will try doing what john said to do in partition wizard now.

Edit: It worked! Thanks so much, johnb35!

@ SW5 You can try Partition Master, it can quickly expand your C: partition through transferring others partition space or unallocated space to C: the system partition.

@voyagerfan99 are you sure that works? I feel it is a little risky.

Yes, I'm sure that works. Why wouldn't it? H is just a data partition for him.

Besides, in case you didn't read, the problem has been solved.
