trying to see NTFS in kubuntu

i am running kubuntu 8.04 on an old hp machine. the problem i'm having is my data drives are already formatted as NTFS from my XP machine before the board crashed.
also, the drives are encrypted using truecrypt
i am trying to find out how to access my data.

do i need to enter some commands to make the drive visible and then use truecrypt to unlock them? or do i have to use truecrypt first?

i am a linux newbie and know absolutely nothing about it yet. so any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

also, does anyone know if the ubuntu version of truecrypt will even work in kubuntu? if not, is there a way to make it work?

just got to apps>download new> in the search box type in ntfs.
it should be something along the lines of ntfs loader or manager or something.. not on it now so idk the exact name.
or you can us Synaptic Package Manager and type in ntfs (its under utilities or system)
then it'll recognize it. :)

do i have to have the linux machine online in order to do that?
or can i download something and just transfer it on my thumb drive?

i appreciate all the help
now i get to have fun trying to make everything work.

linux definitely seems better then windows, just has a bit more of a learning curve apparently

whats so good with linux serouisly i can see there are no viruses as such atm but with more and more people going to linux the software will become targeted by hackers then yor buggered

people that are smart enough to learn linux, are more likely to avoid stupid mistakes, so there will rarely be infections. Just a theory.
