Trying to uninstall AVG...

Will not let me from add and remove programs. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi Sooner-

AVG has this problem unfortunately... you have to remove the files from the register and then remove it from the Program list, etc., etc.

But, it should at some point allow you to remove the entire program from the system.

That's from my experience.:)

RegCleaner time! http://www.dewassoc.com/support/useful/regcleaner.htm

Once you download and double click on the file you will see the one thing it does install appear on the desktop, the shortcut. When you double click on that a main window will then open showing all programs you have installed other then Windows own. But the first thing comes first by way of right clicking on the icon seen in the system tray to shutdown AVG and disable it in both the startup and services gtoups found in the msconfig utility.

Once you have it shut down simply place a check mark next to the AVG or Grisoft items found in the main window of RegCleaner and click the remove button at the bottom right side next to the exit button. You have then removed the two primary registry keys. Using Windows Explorer you can then right click and choose the delete option to see the Grisoft>AVG Free folders removed in one try.

Then you can do as Buy-it PC mentions and right click on the folder found in the Start menu to delete that. Manual but simple. If you are planning to install another antivirus program there's also a good chance that installer will remove AVG for you automatically. Trend Micro's antivirus tools will do this requiring you to restart the system during the installation there.

The multicolored AVG icon would there either visible or hidden from view with the customization option seen in the right click>properities>notification area if it was running. You can also look in the task manager to see if any processes are AVG there. Mainly that would be the resident shield if the control center was still active.

Without it running simply remove the registry values and folders. On the next startup You shouldn't see it listed. Are you going with another program or simply wanting AVG removed?

Trend Micro's installer for PC-cillin will automatically remove AVG or any other program during it's own installation. You won't have to worry too much about uninstalling AVG there.

But...

When I try to install PC Cillin, it says it is going to uninstall AVG, then it does not even when I click on yes, uninstall it.

With AVG working that would immediately uninstall it. The other method is the manual removal as discussed earlier by removing the registry keys with seen in the main window of RegCleaner then deleting the folder found in Program Files and right clicking to delete the Start menu listing there. You could also try reinstalling AVG to later use the uninstaller to see this done.

You can see the registry keys by pressing the windows logo key and then 'R'. Then in the run command box you type in "regedit.msc", that will show you the registry editor. If you want to see your program files then open up my computer, and then go into C drive and you should see program files. that is where most of your programs are installed.

If you have never been in the system registry then using the regedit without specifics can get you into trouble fast! The quick and easy command is simply typing regedit at the Run prompt seen right off of the Start menu. But the RegCleaner tool mentioned earlier can save you from deleting anything unrelated to AVG as described earlier. The screen shot here shows how to remove the AVG registry keys needed.

Despite the 1280x1024 screen resolution you can clearly see the "two" and two only registry keys that have to be removed. Once no part of AVG is running you remove those and right click on the Grisoft folder in Program Files and you can go into the add/remove start menu and go into Start>Programs to right click and choose delete there as well. It's quick and easy! You'll note the two keys highlighted and where the mouse cursor is seen.
