Turn off monitor with keyboard

In Windows display settings you can set how long it takes to turn off the monitor, then when you come back and press a key or move the mouse, it turns the monitor back on. I guess it does this by disabling the video card output.

my question:

anybody know of a keyboard shortcut that would turn off the monitor?

I haven't seen any monitor(crt or lcd) with a usb input for control. You would have to see something on that idea or a remote control where you could program that option. For the time being an lcd will simply go into a standby mode when no signal is being sent to it. For a complete shutofff of power we're all stuck pressing a button on the monitor itself.

i found a program called wizmo that can do it, its pretty cool. it has a lot of other features too, google it its a nice little app

I'm very familiar with that one having tried that out when dual booting 98SE with XP sometime back. But that is for seeing Windows itself shutdown not for seeing any monitor being turned off there.

There are probably an endless number of little addons for Windows to be found. Another small one for seeing a fast reboot of Windows is called iReboot at the same site as you would download EasyBCD. http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=11

With that one you can boot into a different version of Windows without a full system restart and going through the works there(post tests, selecting other OS, etc.).

As for keyboard setups the one thing that many system see is the power button that will see a system itself shutdown or powered up. You see that mostly with office systems however ordered by companies and not too much with a typical home user.

wizmo has a feature that can turn off the monitor, im sure of it, because i just did it. you can deny it all you want lol, but it definitely does. download it and see for yourself!
