i am using microsoft windows xp. for a few days i am having this problem.
when i shut down(turn off) my computer i seems that computer is shutting down. a screen appears which says shutting down windows(like that) but then my computer doesn't do anything. where before it could turn off properly and it used to show a screen 'now you can turn off your computer'

same problem with hibernate......when i hibernate ........screen appears which says.......computer is hibernating....but then it doesn't do anything.

what may be the possible reason?

i should add, it is not causing anything. computer recovers properly from hibernated state and after turning off it boots properly.

I'm confused, the last part of your post contradicts the first part.

Or am i missing somthing?

i just mean to say that the problem is with turn off and hibernate only, rest computer is working fine.

windows xp doesnt say now it is safe to turn off ur computer. it just turn off your computer. try to wait a little longer sometimes it takes longer to shut down if you had ur computer running for days.

Actually.....(On some computer) it says that and you have to turn it off manually.

maybe on older computers? i remember i had to turn it off manually even with xp if the MB doesnt turn off automatically.

ya there is a setting somewhere that you can actualy turn it on but I cannot remember where I stumbled across it! argh, I've also had that problem working on other peoples computer (not really a prob.)

Anyhow Y does it matter? it's best this way if you ask me.
