Turn windows security alerts off?

I have that obnoxious alert in the task bar that constantly tells me I have windows security alerts because I have auto updates off. Is there a way to get rid of that?

Are these neing seen on XP or Vista? For XP you can "tweak" the system registry(at your own risk) by following the instructions seen in a 2003 registry guide found at http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/ The simple way however is to go into the security section found in the Control Panel and click on the updates link. Once that opens click on the "change settings" link to set it to never. Currently you are set to notify but choose time to download.

Go to your Control panel - Security Center - Bottom left where it says Change the way Security Center Alerts me, click on that - then (uncheck) automatic updates-click ok!
