Turning a Brand-New Computer Into a VPS?

Hi,

I'm going to buy a brand-new computer in the next few weeks and planning on leaving it on 24/7.

Now, is it possible to turn it into a VPS so that I can login from Thailand or wherever I am and use the computer that is turned on from home?

If so, how?

If not, any other suggestions?

Thanks for any input!

First of all, a VPS is a virtual private server, usually run in a program like VirtualBox or Zen (or whatever it's called) and used to run web applications and other things. Sounds like you just want to be able to control the computer from another location.

In that case, I recommend TeamViewer.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. Wow, I never thought of that..

So by using a remote desktop software I could essentially run all the softwares and tools that I have installed on my home computer from somewhere else? (please note that the softwares and tools that are run from my home computer need access to internet)

Maybe a stupid question but If I were to run something like virtualbox on my home computer (to run more instances of my softwares simultaneously), will that cause any types of problems when I run a remote desktop software?

Thanks again!

Yes, that is correct. It's almost as if you were at your PC at home, except maybe a little slower in the screen updates.

And no, you shouldn't have issues running VirtualBox on your computer while using TeamViewer.
