Turning Computer Off During Instillation

I need the registration key for my OS, and I am not connected to the internet so it is saying that my code is invalid obviously. Can I turn off my computer and move it to a different room while it is at this point in installing my OS? How would you recommend turning it off? Hold the power button or what? Thanks for the help.

If you turn it off, you'll have to restart the installation. You get the key from the sticker that comes with the install cd.

I have the code, but it said it was invalid. I believe it said it was invalid simply because I was not connected to the internet correct?

No, at that point in the installation it doesn't even attempt to access the internet. The installer is just checking that the key you entered is in the right format of letters and numbers. Most likely you are entering a digit incorrectly.

I am not entering it incorrectly, I bought it at my college a couple of months ago. I checked it over multiple times, so that's great to know that my windows registration code doesn't work.

Is the Cd key actually listed on a microsoft windows sticker stuch on the dvd envelope? Are you sure you are entering it correctly? Sometimes B's look like 8's and 0's can get confused with the letter "O". If you got this key from your college then you need to contact them to see if its the wrong key for the version you are trying to install.

Yes it's on the back of an envelope and I've checked through it and I have had my parents check through it as well. Thanks for the help it appears my code is invalid.

Is this an upgrade cd or full install or oem? And does the same info appear on the sticker?

Same info on the front sticker. It did not come in a box, just a cd envelope at my college's bookstore. I am not sure if it is an upgrade cd or full install cd. I will have to check the disk I assume? Let me take it out of the computer.

Did you have a previous version of windows on the drive? If not, technically you can't use an upgrade cd. You can but not legally.

Yeah I do not. I did not realize there was a difference in the upgrade version. I am buying the full version today and its extremely expensive.

Just buy the OEM version, if you can find it as its a lot cheaper then the full retail version.

Thanks, I got it installed but it keeps booting to me cd drive as primary. I have been hitting delete to get into my bios when the screen pops up but it ignores it and continues loading, or it says my keyboard is not found. However, when I get to the login screen, my keyboard works just fine.

Are you using a usb keyboard? If so, then use a ps/2 type keyboard to get into the bios and then change the usb keyobard/mouse or used to be called legacy usb to enabled. Even if the cdrom is booting first, just remove the cd and it will boot into windows.

I have removed the cd and it boots fine, but do I really need to get a ps2 keyboard to access my BIOS? Thanks for all of the help.

Lol well that's hilarious, I used to have one and we threw it away assuming we would never use a ps2 port keyboard, since our desktop at the time didn't have the ps2 port.
