turning off power supply --> dead computer?

I have a desktop computer, and was playing Crysis on it when the computer froze. My computer completely stopped responding at all, and I tried turning it off by pressing the manual shut down button in the front of the case. However, it was not turning off (even after I held it down for a minute).

So, I went behind the computer and flicked off the power supply switch from "l" to "O". I know it wasn't a good idea, because now my computer won't turn on anymore.

The power supply is broken too because the small light indicator does not turn on when it is plugged in.

I have tried replacing it with a new working power supply, but my computer still does not turn on. So my question is: does switching off your power supply when the computer is running damage any other parts? Is my hard drive broken? My processor? My motherboard?

thanks

Well techically, you just cut off power to everything in the computer except the motherboard (it is always active as long as the computer is plugged into the wall.) I don't know why there would be a problem using the manual shutdown at the front of the PC though, as it always works in the rare cases that I do it. Your motherboard may have fried though, due to all of the other compenents being immediately shut off, however I am not entirely certain.

Alot of times if you kill the power like that, unplug the P/S then hit the power button a few times on the case to discharge the P/S, then plug it back up and try to start it again. Since you changed P/S out it sounds like the board or video card.

Is anything coming on, fans? Have you tried resetting the bios? If you have a case speaker hooked up are you getting any beeps?
