TV and RCA imputs?

Hey im not sure if this is in the right category, but I though I would shoot any ways. So I am going to be buying a 360 soon and I wanted to just hook it up through my pc. I was wondering what some good brands for cards there are for that type of thing, I just bought an audigy 4 sound card, so would like to not spend over 75(I heard they are pricey) Also tv-in would be a plus!
 
The "Computer Games and Consoles" section is one place as well "Video Cards and Monitors". The main problem there will be the type of signal output from the X-Box 360 system you are planning to buy. Those are geared for 75ohm where you would need a card equipped with a tv tuner or a separate tuner card by itself. A good number of the tuner cards generally see analog inputs along with the 75ohm.

AverMedia's MULTRA1500 pci model is listed for $64.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815100008 for a separate expansio card. Newegg also carries other brands. The model there is currently in use here seeing good results for cable tv input as well as occasional video captures and is equipped with 75ohm input and out jacks.
 
Does that card have any lag? It looks a lot like the WinTV PVR150 MCE. I just don't want him to get a card that has a 5 second buffer lag. It's kind of hard to play games when everything's 5 seconds behind the live action ;)
 
I haven't really seen any noticable lag with it. But you have to remember any lag seen with a tuner card is due to having to go through a system and then out to the display where cpu and vpu time are added. When conecting direct to a tv or some to lcd monitors through a signal converter you are going direct.

You'll most likely see something even if for a few seconds less between different models or brands even. Gaming consoles are designed primarily for tv not pc application for the most part. There you don't generally have any hardwares in the way. When you connect an external source instead of running a software direct from a drive this has to be considered.
 
I just know my WinTV has a really bad lag, and it's impossible to play console games on it. Most capture cards to carry some sort of lag. Even ones without hardware buffers probably have a small lag from the computer's software buffer. I tried using a cheaper capture card once, and it does do better than the WinTV for games, but still was slightly behind.

Probably the best best would be getting one of these tuners that plugs directly into your monitor.
 
What you are referring to there is a signal converter that changes the RF output to standard vga. There have been a few threads lately dealing that and someone needing a green sync separator for running one console on a regular tv. You already know that nothing is faster then a live feed. That is instantaneous!

Personally I wouldn't run a console direct into a system due to the slowed response times seen regardless of method used for display as well as input. Just using a tv tuner card for watching live tv while having a tv right nearby you can already see about a 3 or 4 second gap with sound and video alike.

The tv will remain those few seconds ahead of a live feed going into the tuner card automatically. There's no doubt there. But the question was how to connect an X-Box 360 system on a pc in roder to run it there. If you don't have tv(not likely these days) or don't have the room and want to still run it through your system you then have to put up with the obvious drawbacks!
 
make sure you go HD with the 360, or the res of your monitor and 360 will clash (1024/768 and tv res dont mix well)
 
The resolution and the refresh rates are the last part of the problem there. The display time as well as response time to react to what's going on in a game will be the main thing effected by the delay. If you were playing chess for the pc you would never fret at the slight delay. But for action games and racing, boating, and others were response to movement has to be on a 1:1 ratio you won't like what you see. But then that's your money to spend.
 
hmm that makes sense, well then my best bet would be to hook it directly to my monitor then? What would be a good brand for that?!
 
There's not a "card" you can purchase to connect to your monitor. I know of a few external tuners that basically turn any monitor into a TV(I beleive I mentioned this above) However, I don't think there are any HD ones.

What you really need is some soft of VGA cable/box, if they make one for the Xbox 360...
 
There are converters that take that type of RF output and convert it to standard vga for direct input to lcd monitors. In fact a link for one product was posted recently when someone was trying to get a PS2 connected. If that would work on the 360? Basically that should see the same results since the output still has to meet the standards there. So this is way late, but I thought i would mention that I ended up getting a sweet deal on an HD monitor with RCA and HD inputs...then I just ran some rca to 1/8th adapters into the SB card and there is no lag and wonderful sound!
