Hey guys, im thinking about buying a Laptop instead of a new build, id save a little bit for what i want it for, and id beable to get a new widescreen for my desktop.

But my question is can i buy a internal tv tuner and install it into my laptop?

Id really like to have a tv tuner for this laptop.

Any suggestions or help please?
Jeff

The only "internal" ones would be PC-Card ones, but they still stick out an inch or so(depending on the device) I don't know of any "good" ones, though... There's also USB, but I really hate USB tuners -.-

Hence there really is no internal Tv tuner for laptop?

The USB ones i stumbled acorss, they seem like they get the job done.

Why do n't you like them?

they rely on software video encoding, where internal ones have hardware encoders, not to mention usb is a shared bus, and something like a streaming tv broadcast (uncompressed, no less) requires one hell of a lot of bandwidth, which is reducing the amount of available bandwidth that's left for the rest of your peripherals.

Do yourself a favor, and get a cheap (heck, maybe a free hand-me-down) desktop for use as a timeshift/video capture device, and download the recorded shows to your laptop over your network. You'll be much happier.

Oh, did i mention tv's a waste of time in the 1st place? So ya, do what you want.

Toshiba has a hardware encoding external usb one that has amazing picture quality. And I also have an HP tv tuner/capture card that is a PC card and has very good picture, although the external toshiba was better.
