TV tuner card: How does DVR work?

I'm thinking about getting a TV tuner card and I'm wondering what else is necessary to watch and record TV on my PC? Is it simply a matter of plugging the coax cable into the card? Does the card come with software for DVR features? Is that all I would need?

pretty much. although i dont kow what tv tuner card you are thinking of gettng, but hauppauge would be the brand to look into. i dont bother with the software that comes for the cards. i stick with windows media center. it has all the features you qouls need to have it working the way you want it to.

although if you stick with haupauge, you really cant go wrong

Im using a Avermedia usb device thats working fairly well. Didn't have any luck with the usb hauppauge. Ive been signed up with ATT Uverse for about 5 yrs now and they came out to run some more cables in the basement. Asked about the computer cable and said its not ours. Thats comcast. get about 25 channels with it at least all the locals.

Also like the slingbox. I suggest get the digital and not the composite.
