TV Tuner question

I want to get a TV Tuner can I get all the same programming I get in my living room with a tv tuner? I use satellite for my TV.
 
I'm not sure about satellite packages, but in case of cable TV you can't get any channels, you have to pay extra for, like movie channels.
 
Presumably if you have satellite TV, you are already paying for your programming. Your satellite receiver IS your tuner. It decides what program you are watching. You cannot use a TV tuner as such (other than as a video input). Per your other thread, you have to use one or other of the video outputs to go into a video input device in your PC.
 
Your dish is not like an aerial. It receives the satellite signal and tunes in the selected channel. On some receivers, and satellite PVRs, you can tune in to two channels. That is it. There is no output from the box that carries all 300 channels that you can lead somewhere else and select stations from there (not legally anyway). Your one or two channels is it.

When you buy your service, an authorization code is loaded into your receiver and your receiver also gets the list of channels you have paid for. The latter is sent by satellite so if you add or remove channels the receiver is updated.

To connect to your PC, you can use the HDMI, DVI, 75ohm, component video, s-video, composite video, USB but it will only carry that one channel. To change channels, you do so with your satellite receiver remote. That is your tuner.

With a 75ohm aerial, you can use a TV tuner to select and view terrestrial channels. With a cable box, there will be the same sort of authorization as with satellite. Like satellite, the cable box is often your tuner too.

That was answered in the other thread. You would have to get the video into your PC by any of the methods I just listed. If you have HD paid for and you want to get it into your PC, then you have to use the HDMI output from the receiver and get a card like I think I described put in your PC. Otherwise you can use any of the other (lower quality) video outputs and get a card or dongle at your PC that inputs those signals.

As regards wireless connections in the other thread, there are devices but I'm not up on them. That should be discussed over there.
 
I'd suggest getting a Hauppauge PCI card. It has a more reliable firmware so it'll always works unlike those cheap USB tuners. AS for your satellite question, it depends if you live in America or a country which uses the american systems. You can get cards that will support DVB-S, but I'm not too certain about the American system. An other idea is to buy this device http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html and just plug it into your satellite receiver box.
