TV tuners

hi guys

wasnt sure where to put this thread but anyway, im after a tv tuner to go with my new build, (in my sig). I know nothing about them but i want to be able to record and watch at once and preferably have a remote which works with medai centre.

Anybody any ideas what is a good one?

If you want to be able to watch a show while recording another, you need two tuners (or a card with two tuners, but a good one generally runs about the same price as two cards).

I have the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350, and it's pretty good; I would recommend it. If you want to save a little money, you can get the less expensive PVR-150, it's virtually the same thing.

However, if you want to be able to watch HDTV, you'll need a tuner that can decode HDTV.

if you order the pvr-150 from newegg, you get the pvr1600 instead since they dont have 150s anymore.
it has analog (cable hook up, etc) and over the air hdtv. if you have an over the air hd antenna, you can record on one of the tuners and watch on the other. it is under 100 (like 90 dollars) has a remote, and the software included is average. i have one but i havent used it in months. i think it got loose in my cpu case and i im too lazy to open the case and push it back in.

computermaineack got it covered pretty well... I was just going to add in that I have a WinTV PVR-150. Great card, wonderful quality. It's a pain at times to get going(Drivers then update then decoder, or something along those lines...), but well worth it.

I have an AverMedia DVB-TV USB 2.0 box - its external, small and gets all channels. Lets you watch and record and was only £45 ( around 90$) i would recomend this and it comes with a remote

aren't internal ones better because it puts less strain on the computer? I mean, if you have a 3.5 ghz core 2 duo with 4 gbs ram, that might not be a problem to you, but internal tv tuners run off of hardware while extrenal run off of software, esentially relying on your computer to do all the decoding.

Typically yes, internal's much better. I can't say always because there are some very crappy internal cards... However, USB is more of a strain on the computer and tends to be a bit more unstable. Dad's computer, for example, couldn't run this USB capture card he got. It'd work beautifully for about 15 minutes (though random amounts of time), then the program would lock up.

Haha that's awesome I was about to post a topic about the exact same thing, then I saw this.

Heck yes!
