Hi, I have a 40 gig hard drive on this computer and i want to put the old 40 gig from the other computer on this one. problem is, i cant figure out the jumper settings to make on the master and one the slave. i couldnt figure out exactly what to do from searching. anyone please help me.

ohh btw, the second one i want to put on has windows xp on it too. i plan on deleating it when i get it on this one since the other computer doesnt startup anymore.

thanx in advance to anyone who can help :)

i would set one drive to master and the other drive to slave because ive found that setting them both to cable select increases the boot length by a considerable amount. It doesn't matter which plug on the cable they go either.

Yep master and slave is what i would use.Did u got to the manufacture web site and look there. Also it should be on the back of the drive.

ok once i figure out the jumper settings, the cord that comes out of the mother board has two hookups to it. does the master or the slave get hooked up to the one closest to the board. also when thats all hooked up, do i have to change anything in the bios?

If you're setting the drives using the Master and Slave jumpers, then they can get hooked up to either connector, just like Hairy-Lee says. If you're using Cable Select, the SLAVE drive goes on the connector nearer the motherboard, the Master at the end.
When you go into the BIOS, look at each drive and look for an Auto-Detect setting and hit Enter, then exit and save your settings.

Have you found this to be consistently true over many computer builds? I'm planning on redoing my PC using my smaller 20GB drive as Master and I'd consider this as important!
