Two mobo q's

Hi i have the following motherboard and graphics card combination:

Abit NF7S V2.0 Mainboard -
GEFORCE FX5700 256MB TV @ DVI Graphics-

Basically i bought this computer parts and got it put together like sometime end of 2004, so its reaching 3 years old.

My question is how long will my motherboard continue to work without blowing/anything dying out? I mean its reaching 3 years, if i continue with some regular maintenance such as pressurised air to get rid of dust on the motherboard, can it run indefinitely if it was built well? Or do all motherboards end up having somewhere on the board burn out/blow sometime? And does anyone have any useful/nifty tool(s) for identifying when the time comes, if my motherboard is working in one piece, or if anything is wrong with it?

My second question is, given my motherboard, and that my graphics card goes into the AGP slot, I think its agp? There's only one of these slots on my motherboard, and i know the PCI slots are directly underneath it(4 of em) so my gfx is def not PCI. So taking in mind it is AGP slot gfx card... does this mean that I can upgrade/change to a modern day gfx card that they'd be selling in the comp store? Would it work on my comp using my AGP or pci slot? Or do i need a modern day motherboard as well to run any gfx card i'd buy new these days?

It's just that I think my gfx has been giving some problems sometimes, any free way of identifying if my gfx card is dying as well?

THanks for any help!

Well as for repair, its a good board and it will last u a while as long as you don't tamper with it. Depending on the problem i'm not so sure if the average person can fix it. I belive that the graphics card is AGP and they definatly make them, for AGP cards search here.

Your specific AGP slot is 4x/8 make sure if you get another its that category, the ones in that link are. Your mainboard also supports PCI, make sure you DO NOT get PCI Express x1 or x16. You can find em here

Hope that helps!

May i ask what AGP 4x/8x is? And if i do buy the graphics card so that it can fit my old motherboard, if it conks out(The old mobo) when i buy a new motherboard the graphics card should be perfectly compatbile right?

Will I be technologically disadvantaged if i get this AGP 4x/8x though? I mean if it fits my motherboard is there more faster/superior AGP technology cards that my AGP cant support that I miss out on? Becuase if its a big difference ill wait to buy a card that fits the superior AGP format on a new motherboard. If however the 4x/8x is decent/on par performance wise i can replace my gfx card now, and when the mobo conks out it should easily fit in on a modern day new motherboard right?

Same applies for PCI, am I disadvantaged getting a gfx card suited for my PCI format on my old mobo?

And why cant i get PCI x1 or x16, what do those mean?

THanks for help though!

PCIe 1-16X is the new interface, PCIe X16 replaced AGP for your video and PCIe 1-8X will over time replace the PCI bus
