Is it possible to have Windows xp home installed and windows xp professional also installed on the same computer. If so can I install windows xp professionals without losing any data in my windows xp home operating system.

It's possible but why bother making two operating systems on one computer; in your case ( as I already do ) I would download Microsoft Virtual Machine.
After you install it you can install whichever Windows you want.
Great thing, believe me.

Why would you want XP Home and Pro on the same PC? They basically look & feel the same. It is possible however, by creating an extra partition using Partition Magic or Acronis. Microsoft Virtual PC is a good tool, however, you need at least 1GB of RAM to make Virtual PC run effectively.

yeha you can, on different partitions or drives, but why use home ?
why not use XP proSP2 and install home via a vm like some members said ?

XP pro offers a few features home doesn't

-remote desktop
-ability to connect to a domain level network
-more advanced access control and policies

Other than that, they are pretty much the same OS.

^ Agreed. I have a license for XP Pro, but i still run the factory installed XP Home on my Sony Vaio.
