two wireless routers

Here's my situation, My mom built an addition onto my sisters house. They have a wireless router in their house. The signal isn't the greatest when it gets to this side. I am set up in the attic and get a decent signal but it cuts out every now and then which is quite annoying with playing co-op. I have a second wireless router I was going to hookup in our part of the house. since we're sharing the same internet is it possible to have the two set up, and how would I go about doing this? I have seen online that it is possible but no clear explanation of setting it up. I would prefer to be hard lined in but that's not an option at this point.

You could setup 2 routers providing one of them is capable of updating ddwrt firmware and then you can use it as a wireless extender. What model of routers do you have? Is there anyway to run a cable from the first router to the second router?

the main one is a netgear and the new one is a morotorla. I can't direct connect them without running a cable all the way through two houses, so that's not going to happen.

So how far away are the routers? I would need specific model numbers of routers please.

The main router is netgear wndr3700 and the motorola is sbg901. it is about i would say 100- 200 feet away.

One thing I've heard of is a way to extend your network through the powerlines in your house. Basically it's two devices that plug into existing wall outlets and they connect to eachother through the powerlines in your house. It could be a good option to bring an access point straight into your room. I don't know much about them, so if you think of this as a viable option, I would definitely do my research first. Here is an example of such a setup. Note that there are three options and this one is the wireless.

It's called WDS or Wireless Distribution System and you can do that with two similar and capable routers. But I would get an extender.

The DD-WRT option is probably your best bet, but if you're trying to game on this wireless it will completely destroy your experience with the repeater added. The repeater takes up spectrum space and the original router as well as clients won't broadcast while it's rebroadcasting the original signal. It usually results in a 'less than half' performance scenario.

Any chance on moving the router to a more 'centralized' location? Also keep in mind that most omnidirectional antennas have a pretty limited elevation plane, if you are going up floors and similar you'll start going to the edge of the cone shape of the broadcast area.
