typical noob question, Google didn't help

hi there,

i am trying to connect two pc's together, so i can share a folder for quickbooks. sharing the folder is no problem. the problem is that i am living in a ski resort and use the public internet. to surf, i use the wireless network. for quickbooks i am used to using powerline from netgear.
my question is:
how can i create a network, using powerline, but making sure no one else is able to access it? thats it...

both run windows xp pro
i have eset smart security on both machines
help is appreciate it
no need to explain in details, i just need to know what to look for on the net...

set up an ftp server and you can share any files and folders and you can only log into your server with usernames and passwords you set up. You can set up a server from any system and all of it is free, it may be the easiest option because it only takes about 10 minutes to set up a working server, and anyone anywhere can connect to the server, so long as you set them up a user and pass on the server. The link above is a guide to doing it

gonna give it a try but i am not sure if this will work. i am using quickbooks pro 2007 and in order to be able to use quickbooks from 2 different computer, you have to share the database file...not sure if this will work if i upload it to a server and the other user is accessing the file like that???

wait a minute??? did i missunderstood the whole thing? am i building my OWN server? in other words: i am making one pc the server and the other one the host, but both are here with me??? right?

just looked into and i knew once how to do it. i don't remember how to add users the list of people allowed to access the folders??? any help?

You can set up password protection for file sharing. They'll be able to see your computer on the network but won't be able to access it, if you have a user account password.

i know i can but i cant figure out how to do it.

i pick a folder
right click and pick sharing and security
next window - share this folder - then - permissions

that where i get stuck. i don't remember how to create uses that have permission do access the folder???
