was trying to format a hard disk after it was infected with viruses and caused it to slow down. using command prompt "format C:" and enter, the reply was "the type of the file system is NTFS, enter current volumn label for dirve C"
can someone pls help? thanks in advance.

Yeah, that's right. When it gives you that prompt just enter a name up to 11 characters long (no spaces) and carry on.

thank you for your prompt response. Will do it over the weekend. May i know can i use dell window xp to install after i format my hard drive? Cos i misplaced my HP window OS.

pardon me, i thought i suppose to enter a name up to 11 characters long (no spaces) when prompt and then load the Dell window xp, i do not understand the purpose of these recovery software. Pls enlighten me and thanks.

well, as far as i understood from u previous posts u want to format HD and
"format : c" doesn't work.
now those free/softwares can solve ur problem, in spite of file system u'r c-C-drive is running.
u could download them/it and follow instructions(or help menu) in order to make format.

Hi SirKenin and Paga, was able to get of the viruses through restore point and therefore did not format the hard disk. will do that if the problem arises again. Thanks anyway....somemore questions but not in this section...will post in the appropiate place.
