Ubuntu 10.4 LTS

your wireless driver just needs to be activated. just click activate and enter your password. it will download and install it for you. Unfortunately you will need to be connected with an ethernet cord before you can download the wireless driver

I think that you can open it with archive manager and it should be able to install for you. If that is not working, I would recommend downloading wine from the synaptic package manager. go to system -> administration -> synaptic package manager. Type wine in the search bar and mark wine for instillation. it will ask to mark others that need to be installed for wine to work. go ahead and mark the others and hit apply. Once it downloads and installs it will show up under applications.

Hope that works

The second part did not work for Wine. As for getting Ubuntu on the Internet, I plugged in my Ethernet cable for it to get access.

A lot of people forget to do this.

applications>ubuntu software center, in the search bar type in drivers and a list should pop up. click on perpriotory drivers then click install, this will fill a lot of missing drivers you didn't know you where missing. If you do not have wifi you will need to use a ethernet cable and this should fix your wifi issue.

In this ubuntu software center this is where you get 90% of your software like wine. In the search bar type in wine then click on it and then install. Some problems people have been having with wine is some new security thing where it won't let it run the program in LTS for this you just right click on the program go to properties and check the box for excutable, then run it under wine.

Thanks everyone and I think it's cause I have to actually install it on my hard drive, but idk how to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Waiting for a friend to show me sometime this weekend.

Also, I store installation files and stuff on my external hard drive. Where should I put them so I don't get any errors when using the Terminal?

You may not use terminal much cause ubuntu 10.04 kind of made it easier to use. Installation files? Like windows programs?

DMGrier: Yes, by installation files, I mean the one on my Windows 7 system. I have the executable programs already on my Windows 7 system, but I don't know how to set up Ubuntu stuff. Also, I just successfully partitioned my C:\ Drive and gave it 30.6 unallocated space and put Ubuntu on it so now I can dual boot. Yay YouTube, lol.

Ubuntu is probably the best documented Open Source Linux there is. I would head over their official forums, their wiki, and so forth.

tlarkin: Okay, but I have a hard time with that stuff. I try it (the terminal stuff), but it doesn't work for me and I don't know where to put the wine-1.2.tar.bz2 at in order to open it properly. What files/folder on Ubuntu do I put that kind of stuff at?

Okay, well, I was able to connect Ubuntu to the Internet through my wireless router. I'm trying to set up the email settings and IM software.
