Hi guys,i've been getting problems with video legging on some streams like Espn3 on Ubuntu 14.04lts Amd 64bit,special on FireFox28, and Chrome is ok,then i installed Xubuntu 14.04 32Bit and now don't have none of those issues.

My question is Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64bit instead of Ubuntu or xubuntu Intel 32bit might it be the cause of these issues?, since my machine is

Lenovo Intel core(tm) I5 2400 CPU 3.10ghz ,3.8Gib Mem
It has Intel integrated HD 2000 but i've got and run an ATI AMD 6450 Video Card with fglrx video drivers

I Mostly use PC to stream live TV.

Can someone tell me if i'm running the wrong Ubuntu ISO?,
should i run Ubuntu 32bit instead of AMD64Bit? thanks

It most likely has nothing to do with the bit-depth of your distro and more to do with Unity and Firefox. Firefox's performance is pretty bad as it is, but I'm sure Unity doesn't help much either.

You can however install and use a different desktop environment on Ubuntu (including XFCE, which is used on Xubuntu). Here's a guide: http://jay4rest.wordpress.com/2014/04/24/installing-xfce-desktop-in-ubuntu-14-04/

Here's one for Gnome 3.12, which I rather like: http://askubuntu.com/questions/452864/how-to-get-gnome-shell-3-12-on-ubuntu-14-04

Thanks lucas: Today i installed Xubuntu 14.04 lts 64 bit and everything runs smoothly,
i noticed that xubuntu has Firefox 29,and Ubuntu14.04 has Fire fox28, maybe that's why i had those legging issues with video !

Glad it's working now. Still betting Unity was the main issue.

lucas i was running Gnome2 flashback {metacity} you say although i run desktop gnome2 still Unity desktop is in control?

i still think the problem was in Firefox28,i should have tried firefox29 in ubuntu but now that everything running great with Xubuntu,it's a keeper for now.

Unity would have nothing to do with it since you got the 6450. Unity is heavy on 3D acceleration but most dedicated chips are fine. My sons Hp has an nvidia 7150m which is a old chip but runs Unity fine while playing minetest. Integrated prior to intel HD 3000 struggle.

It is also not necessarily Firefox either, it is the outdated Flash Plugin which will be fixed soon as Firefox will be offering users an ability to opt into built in Adobe products (aka Flash).

You could use Chrome but IMO for Ubuntu blows chunks as it always blue screens. For some reason Chromium runs so much smoother not sure why but just make sure when you go to install Chromium don't click on "install" but "more info" and scroll down and click on "pepper plugin" so you can have flash support, then click on "install"

Thanks DMGrier; i will take your advice in concideration in the future if i ever get back to Ubuntu unity, for now i 'm happy with xubuntu 14.04lts XFCE, it's working ok for now.

It is time for Firefox to do something about the Flash plugin, your experience got better cause the performance for FF 29 was greatly improved which was necessary since Flash is really slowing FF down.

I like how easy it is to customize xfce, my only complaints and I know they sound stupid but it bugs me how when you push the Windows key the whisker menu does not open and from my use of google the feature does not exist plus I can never get the Windows to snap to true full screen when I push them against the top of the screen.

On a upside Unity 8 which we should see for the 16.04 release is suppose to be extremely light and is also dropping GTK for qt so it will be nice to have another elegant but light weight desktop.
