Ubuntu goes to Beige screen then nothing happens

I am trying to install Ubuntu on my new computer I've been building. I have a Live CD, which runs properly, and takes me to the menu. I click run/install, and it works... I see the loading screens. Then it turns beige and I get a popup asking if I want to reset the time. I click yes... but then I get an error (I think something about not having the privilege) and then I'm stuck at the beige screen. The mouse icon shows up, and I can move it, but there is nothing to click on.

Please Help!

I would try running the CD in safe graphics mode before trying anything.

When you boot to the CD menu it should be right under the "install ubuntu" selection.

Tried that already, didn't work. I think the problem is clicking yes when I get the pop up because then it needs internet and when it can't find it, it freezes up. Or something like that.

Have you tried the Alt-CD yet? Text-based, but usually works for setups where the LCD (heh...) fails.

Press control+alt+backspace. Then you should be looking at a command prompt. Type startx and see if that works. If it still doesnt work, install ubuntu via the alternative install disk. It is on the normal ubuntu download page and there should be a little check box if you want to download the alt-install cd.

Yeah, I think I will have to. BTW, how do you get Ubuntu to recognize a SATA. I have a brand new seagate SATA hard drive, unused. Live CD won't recognize it though.
