The lag on Ubuntu is incredible, and I can't get any drivers installed for my Radeon 9200SE. Do I have to buy a new video card?

I'm using Ubuntu Gusty 7.10 64bit

I would uninstall the 64-bit version and go with the 32-bit version of Ubuntu. My Ubuntu 7.10 32-bit is running fine and faster than Windows XP with the system I have listed in my signature.
 
It might, did you try using the Restricted Drivers Manager (System>>Administrator>>Restricted Drivers Manager) to get the drivers?
 
speaking of ubuntu bring slow might i throw in a quick question. I'm running dual boot xp and ubuntu on my laptop and it takes longer to boot to ubuntu than to xp. anyone else experience anything like this?
 
ok, thanks... I might just go back to windows seeing as how none of my games will run under ubuntu not to mention it's a tablet pc and none of the tablet stuff will work with ubuntu either.

You can have the system profile itself during a startup to remember what files it uses and it what order it uses them. It will boot very slow while doing this since it's making a record for itself for future boots. After it loads, wait for the HDD led to stop blinking, then restart and watch it fly :) PM me for a how-to; it's super easy. Also, what are your Laptop specs? Is this the Tablet you mentioned? You may be better off with Xubuntu (much lighter than the Gnome or KDE version).

Wine may help you in the gaming regards. It's a compatibility layer that makes (most) Windows Apps. play all nice-like with Unix. As far as the Tablet PC part, again, I'm referring you off-forums to this link: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=135. It's the actual Hardware/Laptop Folder, not a specific Thread, but browse a bit and I'm sure you'll find someone with a similar issue and the advice they received.

Ah. I'm not a gamer, so I've never tried using Wine for that purpose, just random Apps. I've heard good things about both Crossover and Cedega, but have not experienced either of them yet. Maybe it's time to give them a shot.

I can't get any of my games that worked with Windows XP to work with Linux Ubuntu 7.10. I use Ubuntu for reading and browsing the internet. Whatever doesn't work with my Linux operating system I just use Windows for. That's why I dual boot with both operating systems.
