Yeah, Just bought this:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-145-263

Not knowing that it isn't compatible with my motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2758#ov

With no previous knoweldge of memory, I tried to put the DDr3 ram into the DDr2 slots...and i'm pretty sure i fried one of my ram slots, theres a little tiny black hole in the first slot of the yellow slot, I was going to send the ram back to get DDR2 ram, but knowing i have one busted slot seems like a waste of money to me..Wouldn't it be much better to just get a newer, DDR3 compatible motherboard instead of returning my ram and messing with all that? Also, is there a good chance the DDR3 memory is fried as well?? how can I check?

Current: Gigabyte Ma7gm-S2H
CPU: AMD Phenom II x2 550

RAM: 2.0gb Dual Channel DDr2 @ 401mhz (Will be upgraing to CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V (JUST installed a few days ago)
GPU: Ati Radeon 4850 Iceq Turbo

HD 1TB Western Diital WDC Wd1001FALS-00jb1 ATA (SATA)

Was looking at THIS: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138197

would it suit my needs? I'm not really sure why it fried, maybe its because i had the stick in wrong or whatever.. But I did recently just put in that power supply, an upgrade from my old sparklepower 400w one, would that have something to do with it? What do you guys recommend?

Cheers from a first time poster! :good:

Nope, cant put DDR2 in a DDR3 slot. It might have burned out the memory too. But yeah that board will work with the processor and DDR3. But I would pick one the lowerend MSI/Gigabyte or Asus boards instead of a Biostar.

I would get the motherboard Linkin suggested. A Socket AM3+ motherboard is going to give you an upgrade path to get a great processor in the near future over Socket AM3 motherboards.

Get the ASUS M5A87 AM3+ Motherboard.

Crossfire and SLI are over rated. Just get a really good single video card and it should handle about anything you throw at it.

be aware returning to newegg will require a restocking fee, but it can be done, id just say grab a new motherboard tho :) there is a am3+ socket avaliable for most of the gigabyte boards now, id snatch one of those up
