ok, there is no way that any of the temps are over 40...The outside of the case doesn't even feel warm and neither does my room...I think something's wrong with the temperature monitor. Can anyone help figure out what's wrong with the monitor? Also, does anyone know of a vista gadget that displays temps? I've googled and come up empty handed.

Ehh, you cant go by those temps.. only the "core" temps are most accurate. Even when i got a new cooler "CPU" temp stays the same (51*c) never moves at all.. nor does the mainboard temperature (50*c) but if i go to bios it will say my mobo is like 30*c and cpu 28*c. I only use PC Wizard for Core temps which are the important ones anyway, i guess the others are just bs

Go to bios and see what it says, that would be a crazy temp to have though :P

ok, speedfan gives me 51, 48, 48, and 46 for the four cores. =/ I haven't overclocked yet, isn't this bad? If this affects anything, I'm torrenting at around 400kb/s download copying 6gb over the network from my laptop and coping 4500 songs off my ipod right now...Does that really cause processor temperature? I figured it would cause hard drive temps to raise...
"HD0" comes with 46 C

Since it seems like your CPU has a load on it, those temperatures are fine. When it gets to around 65 C, then I'd be worried, but I'd still check BIOS just to be sure.

Utorrent can use abit of resources (thus create heat) when moving alot of data, or maybe it's just so with my copy/machine. :)

What CPU fan do you have? The RPM reading looks wrong too. >14000RPM seems kind of fast....

The temperature readings are faulty, try Core Temp, it reads the internal temperatures.

oh..I just checked task manager and noticed that 'ipodaccess.exe' (process for letting me get the songs off my ipod via the program) was taking about 40 cpu...So i ended it and my temps have stabilized around 48 C...which I still think is pretty high...The Heatsink I'm using is a thermalright ultra 120, and the fan for it is a scythe s-flex 1200rpm...pc wizard is just buggy, core temp gives me all 4 core temps in my tray.

Still though, can anyone with a Q6600 share their temps please?

Don't forget that the actual temperature sensors can be way off.
I'd start up my PC from hours of hibernation and have CPU temps way too high in SpeedFan. I went to the Configure > Advanced tab and altered the temp to match a thermometer that sat next to the PC for the same amount of time. Presto: accurate temps!

oh...I don't have a thermometer that accurate, (able of getting the exact temp of the processor from outside), but I'm asking about this because I plan on overclocking to 3ghz...Core Temp always says the four cores are around 50 C, (+ or - 2 degrees if I'm using the computer, otherwise they're around 41 C). I feel my case when I'm using it, and it's so cool that it doesn't even feel like the computer is on. (not exaggerating, I'm using the p180b if you're wondering.) I plan on overclocking by 600mhz or so, and I was wondering if anyone had any temperature hike guesses?

I think it's pretty obvious somethings wrong here. Typically anytime something read's 255 there's an error. I do think you're running hot, but I'm quite sure if those were actual temps you're machine would be smoking or on fire right now :P

The core temps are probably correct, which also means you're running a bit too hot. I'd check your HSF before doing much else. Reseat it... Grab some other software to check the temps too. Check in the bios, or find the software that came with the mobo.

Phew, i KNEW there was no way it was running at 50 celcius...It's not emitting any heat at all...anyways, can someone explain to me why the program that came with my motherboard gives a different temperature than core temp does?
