Im just curious, If you live in the uk, where would you buy a laptop from?

would you buy online, and if so where?
would you buy from a shop? and if so where?
What make would you go for?

not a gaming laptop, just a nice, reasonably powerful one for work and general use.

Is apple stuff real expensive over in the UK?

yeh it really is lol!

um i bought my laptop from technoworld .com i think it is, it was a ral good price.

£405 for the one in my sig just before xmas.

basically dont buy from pc world etc.... they overprice seriously!

i believe tesco offer a fair range of notebooks, and they also offer a free extended warranty (for the Acer notebooks at least).

Its possible to get a very basic unit for about £300 but i'm sure that you'd be able to find one cheaper from places like ebuyer, scan, overclockers.co.uk and maybe dabs.

yeah for some reason Apple products outside the US are more expensive....however they make the best laptops out there IMHO.

I read acer is huge in europe, the thing is I remember when acer made desktops back in the day in the US and they kind of sucked. I think they are a cheap products but by no means bad products. Almost every review I read about acer laptops is that they are the best bargain laptops you can get.

they still make desktops, as well as servers, notebooks, sat nav, PDA's as well as other stuff

yeh definately over here in England Acer a big make for prebuilt machines, in my opinion in the top 3 for the U.K.
in no order:
Compaq
Acer
HP

well acers don't sell all that well across the pond mate, at least not to my knowledge. Packard bell is still alive and kicking over in europe too isn't it?

packard bell is still kinda out, although not amny people buy them as they dont give much choice with them.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/nbranges.html

I have been impressed with Novatech, there laptops look good although I cant say anything from first hand knowledge.

Their only a small company based in Portsmouth (I think they might have a place in Bristol now as well??) so there fairly local to me and have good customer service.

i hear novatech computers are average... but they do overcharge for what you get. i mean £420 for a laptop based on a intel celeron m 1.6ghz is expensive in my opinion.

I got my HP DV5244EU from Staples, and I'm very happy with it, especially the deal I got with it:

HP Photosmart C3100 printer (£80?)
Targus black backpack (£49.99)
Norton 2006 (£30.00)

And a free cool Targus mouse!

All for £100 extra!
