Uknown Computer Problem

I will try to add all the littlest details.

My computer is in my sig. I've had it for about 3 months now and so far my computer never froze up on me until yesterday. I reformatted my computer about a week ago for spring break. I've been gaming allot playing WoW for about 2 weeks. I had no problems at all, WoW or anything was running fine on my computer until it happened yesterday.

I was playing WoW yesterday and suddenly my game froze, I alt+tab'd and got out of the game slowly taking me to desktop, I thought the best thing to do was to reset my computer, I hit the reset button. When it was finished loading windows I tried to go into WoW but it said that I had no internet connection. I clicked into fire fox, internet explorer and found no connections. I then looked in the network connections folder and there was nothing. I tried creating a new network but it said I had no network hardware. But how can this be, I have one in my computer that has been working for 3 months? My screen suddenly turns black with the monitor light changing orange.

I restarted my computer again and went into bios to check my temps. My temps were all fine, the CPU temp, the case temp, all was normal. For the fans it said 4000+ RPMS on all the other fans EXCEPT my CPU fan. My CPU fan was 0 RPMS I thought right away that my CPU fan was not running. I checked but it was there running normally, all my fans in my computer were running normally.

I restarted my computer and loaded windows, I went into some games and offline programs and everything seemed fine, but then my monitor screen goes black again, with the orange light.

I thought this might be a spy ware/virus issue but I haven’t been doing things to get them. I installed a fresh copy of windows xp home with little things installed.

Here's what was installed on my computer:
World of Warcraft, Steam, Microsoft office, Adobe reader. And the program I just installed recently was Ventrilo about 3 days ago.

I thought this might be a video card issue due to the monitor screen turning black. But how can it be if my computer can't detect my network card? And also in the bios with 0 rpms for my CPU fan? This sounds like a mobo issue maybe?

I couldn't think of any reasonable explanation to this problem so I tried reformatting my computer. I put my winxp cd in and it went to the blue setup screen and just stayed there. I don't think it froze, it seemed like it just stopped. I tried to attempt to install it again and it stops on the same screen. Now that I can't reformat I tried resetting my cmos. After resetting my cmos, I went into bios and checked my temps and they were all fine except the CPU fan rpms still at 0.

To sum things up, My computer was completely normal and was running fine until it froze playing WoW, restarted and now my computer can't detect my network card, my monitor screen turns black sometimes, my cpu rpm fan is 0, I can't install windows xp.

What could be the problem?
Right now I am going to test my hardware components by replacing them.

Help is very much appreciated!

Man I don't know what's going on...that thing was a damn good motherboard since I first got it...

The whole thing about the CPU fan at 0RPMs worries me. I don't know if oyu realized this, but the computer will cut off if the fan goes to 0RPMs.

With the networking part, I'd try swapping PCI slots if possible. Sometimes that helps out if there's some minor hardware conflict or anything.

Um...hmm... I can't think of much else to try. Perhaps to be sure this isn't some heat issue or anything, you could try underclocking the processor?

Yes, when i reset the cmos and turned on the computer it said error detecting cpu (or something like that) it was at 1050mhz at the startup. I wen't into bios and checked the clock speed and it was at 500mhz, i then switched it to 1000mhz and restarted and the error was gone.

This is a really wierd problem, but im switching network/video cards and testing it out right now. Everything in the system seems like its running fine, all the fans are spinning and everything is running alright, it's really wierd.

Well i cant test other components now since i just did something that i shouldnt have.

I went into bios and turned on Protect if CPU Fan is turned off, when i enabled it and save & exit, the computer closed right away. I then turned my computer on and the system did 3 long loud beeps and automatically turns off right away. Looks like the cpu fan protection is working. What i don't get is my cpu fan is spinning!

This is really just bizzare

There might be some dust or something stopping the signals getting through. Its a long shot, but thats all i can think of atm.

I was thinking about this earlier...though I thought that Fan Protect was always on O.o I know it messed me up the first day I had that mobo :P Anyway, try to connect some other fan to the CPU fan connection... See if it'll register another fan and perhaps something's just wrong with the CPU fan? Even just the RPM portion...

Hmm... I'm not sure about those 3 beeps... Typically, when it doesn't have a fan(at least from what thought I rememberd) it would just power off. You know, spin the fans for a second, then cut right back off...

Oh, something else we havn't touched on, but that's the PSU. I kind of doubt it, but they always cause weird problems and seem to be one of the first components to die out... It's worth a shot if you have another one to test...

The cpu fan now shows rpms! I connected the fan wire to another slot on the mobo (the one next to the one before) And now it shows 4000+ rpms. Looks like i can turn my computer on since i switched it.

I am also on the computer right now :) i just switched network cards. I guess the netgear network card died out? Now to see if my monitor screen goes blank. So far we're having some progress :)

Odd...at least it's working... Yeah, maybe that one NIC just died. Who knows, it could of been causing some other conflicts as well.
