Ultimate Security

Honestly it's been a year since i cared if my $300 dell comp gets any virus' ect but now I'm about to build my new baby again and I have sorta fallen behind on todays top securty software.

If ya'll dont mind, can you please just name all the free and retail utility programs ya use? Dont mind the firewall but other things like

anti virus/bug/pest/mail/hack/ ect is more then welcome.

Also, if any new interesting "useful" utility programs like "killbox" or "highjack this" came out that i should be aware of now would also be greatly apprciated.

Buzz, im counting on you dude, i know ya know your security :-)

There are a couple of things.
Superantispyware is much better than Adaware.
If you don't mind things popping up all the time, there's Prevx1, Process Monitor and Win Patrol.
I use AntiVir for antivirus.
And Avenger is far better than Killbox.

You dont have to worry about security too much. I just run nod32 and spybot SD behind a router and I haven't got infected for over a year and a half. But your best tool is Firefox ;)
But now that there is malicious java, it doesn't rreally matter now days *sigh*...

Moto, i use avg, avast, adware se, ccleaner, should i get whatever else you mentioned?
or should i do buzz's list.

sorry, not intending to high jack

I wouldn't recommend running two anti-viruses. I would use one or the other ;)
Unless you are talking about avg anti-adware.

I have been running my list on every computer I have ran, and they haven't any infections problems. I am sure buzz's is better then mine, but they both work.

They're all good, the question was what's new, keep what you have and maybe add Superantispyware.

I guess it depends whether you're willing to pay for decent software, or happy to pick up freebies that may not protect you as well - leaving you with the odd cleanup every few months?

In my opinion AVG, Avast, Spybot and Adaware are no longer even "fair" programs. Maybe a couple of years ago they were all great programs which I recommended to anyone and everyone. However, I have noticed more and more (especially over the last 12 months) that my friends and family are getting infected whilst using these programs for their security setup.

I've since moved the majority of them over to Prevx1 and have had zero issues or cleanups to attend to - which is great for me. I've been part of the Prevx1 beta-program for the last 6 months or so and have been mighty impressed - especially with recent releases which will be due for the public very soon.

I have become a very big fan of this program and would recommend this to everyone who is suffering from a malware infection - or to stop them from happening in the first place.

thanks for the info, i got rid of adware and downloaded superantispy ware, and avast and it's recodnised a few sus programs i was scanning with no result.
just wondering could you open it up with any programs to see how it works? maybe c++?

If you're looking for ultimate security, the actuall front-end package (i.e., zone alarm, sygate, norton, sphyx etc) isnt so much an issue as the entire philosophy you're implementing (i.e., whitelist, blacklist, greylist etc). Whitelisting allows for an obscene amount of control and security but is usually beyond the levels of maintenance most users want.
