so if i have a board that uses 2 sets of tripple ddr3 ram then can i use 3 sets of dual channel ram?

Is it a DDR3 or a DDR2 motherboard? i didn't know DDR3 had backwards compatability with DDR2. What motherboard is it?

If you have 6 sticks of ram, as long as they are the same type (like DDR3) they can be used for a triple channel setup.

i think you can only do what your board and ram support. if your board is only triple channel, i don't think you can do dual channel. same thing with the ram: if they only support triple channel, not sure you could do dual channel with them. i could be totally wrong though...

as far as whether or not they'll work at all, they should be fine. but like i said, i don't know that you'll be able to run them in dual channel mode. anyone else with actual experience with that kind of a setup?

EDIT: looks like i was wrong as far as the ram needing to support triple/dual channel. nevermind there :P

I think that what he means is that if you bought 3 dual channel sticks of ram like 3 of these to get 6 sticks of ram. That way he can use all six slots on his mother board in triple channel. I think he is wondering if there is anything different about ram that is labeled dual channel vs. triple channel.

Hope I got that right.
