unable to boot from cd/RAM

I am unable to boot from cd while installing windows xp pro. When the "press any key to boot" message comes on it times out after the five seconds. I know my keyboard works. There are two sticks of DDR RAM. One is 256MB, the other 128MB. Could this be a factor?

What kinda keyboard is it? I tried that before with a compaq usb keyboard and wasn't able to function it until windows loaded. Try a different keyboard. Try one of those
5-pin DIN keyboard connectors or 6-pin mini-DIN keyboard connector.
