Unable to boot up XP

I am unable to boot up XP even while I putin the XP cd

i boot up the laptop and it just hangs on the cursor...nothing else happens

If you're trying to reinstall, press ESC during startup to chose where to boot from. Select the CDROM.

even if i chose boot from CD rom, it won't work

Did the machine get dropped or did it just quit working?

It sounds like the hard drive went out. How old is the laptop?

What model/brand?

maybe theres a system error or important file error or corruption. if the laptop is very old and useless then thats the stage its gonna start to die at.
either swap the hard drive around with a new one and re-install windows and see what happens.
