Unable to use Net Send

Two computer running Windows XP Service Pack 3, Messenger service enabled on both, and Firewalls inactive. When trying to send a message from either of the computers, I receive an error message stating that the message alias could not be found. The correct syntax has been used and I can also see the computers when using Net View. I have even tried third party SW, but remote computers are showing up as being Offline. Anybody that could offer some help, would be greatly appreciated. (I am able to ping the other users). I cannot send messages to myself or others.

Thanks,
Mike

Im not a tech on this subject but saying:

Ive used at work and at home playing.

set up a network or workgroup.
computer names and make sure you can network the computers.

Other problems might be take down the firewall until ya get it working. put it up then try. then if issue you will have go into the firewall and authorize. might be on all computers.

I just use it to ask mama when dinner is going to be ready.

just an idea.

check your messenger service in services.msc most likely off for security reasons, must be on to use net send.

net send *
the astersik will send it to all people on the domain and ive seen this work a few times when addressing the computer directly doesnt work
