Undetected Second Monitor

I very recently got my hands on a new monitor (new to me anyways), and I've been trying to get it set up in a dual monitor array-thingy, but it's not detected by windows, even when the first isn't around. I'm not much of a techie, so I don't really know my computer's specs anymore so bear with me if the information is not sufficient. The card is a dual-head GeForce FX 5900XT, and Uhm, not much to give you about my mobo/cpu
 
I know with mjy ATI card, i had to go into the ATI setup utility and configure it for dual-monitor setup, i'd imagine you would have to do the same. So go into your nVidia setup utility and you should be able to find it from there.
 
That made no sense to me.. no sense at all.. anmd I can't get the monitor to work on its own either, I'd think that would be the first step heh..
 
Is it some kind of specail monitor that could need wierd drivers to work, and what connetion is it using. What graphics port are you plugging it into when it doesnt work, have you tried both ports on both monitors. Check for bent pins, check for broken pins. If its a DVI interface check that you have the right DVI, there are 2 different ones. (Cont remeber what they are but im sure you can go and find out somewher else). Give us some info to work with and maybe we can help.
 
Uh nope, not a special monitor, just an old packard bell, I watched it work fine at a friends before he handed it over. Not sure of the connection, some 14-pin thingy, into a pretty red adapter that makes it something with 24 pins and a pretty little thing next to it. o.O There is a bent pin, but it fits into the adapter fine and no idea what DVI is.. sorry about the lack of information :S

Update.. took adapter off and put it on other head and works just fine.. and the other monitor isn't doing anything through the adapter :S
 
Are you sure that the second moitor is actually enabled, right click on the desktop and select properties. Go to SETTINGS tab, if you see two little screens like the first pic, then the 2nd monitor is disabled.

To enable it click the picture of the 2nd screen and tick the box that says "extend my windows desktop to this monitor"

When the monitor is enabled it should look like the screens in the 2nd image.
 
Have you restarted your PC with both monitors connected, most/all graphics cards dont detect second monitors until the PC has been booted up with them connected.
 
do you have onboard video? If so try connecting your monitor into that one.
[edit] the onboard one is the little blue port that's around the audio ports and usb ports on your motherboard.
