Uninstall IE

I want to uninstall the default browser included with Microsoft win 7, IE 8 or 9.

can I do this? I looked in C.P and Its not in the list of programs.

It's under control panel, remove programs then turn windows features on/off. If you are using XP, it's in a similar location - add remove windows components (also part of add remove programs).

if you're using windows 7 go to your start menu and type 'turn windows features on or off'

launching that will give you a box of windows programs that are bundled for your OS, you can easily uncheck whichever programs you want disabled from use, including IE

EDIT: beat me to it cromewell haha

Technically, it can't be uninstalled as its integrated into the operating system and you may run into issues later down the road if you somehow do get it uninstalled. I suggest leaving it alone as its not hurting anything.

I agree with that. Ive always used Explorer for updates only.
I never could get updates with firefox. just hide it, you might need it.

I used nlite once to remove IE from a new XP install CD that I made. It was pretty surprising how many little things stopped working.

I even had to install a 3rd Party tool to uninstall programs. Seems IE was needed to make the XP Add/Remove Programs function work.

best to just leave it its not doing any harm to your memory

its suprising how many little features stop working in windows when you unistall ie

And that's why MS integrated it into the OS. So you can't ever fully remove it without causing issues.

I advise you don't unistall IE. It is intergrated with the operating system, even when you browse through files it uses IE. Install a different Interent Browser and just leave IE alone because it may do more damage then good.
